Application to Register With Prior Formalities

I am a national of a third country or obtained my diploma in a third country and wish to practise the profession of architect permanently.

Equivalence of diploma

I am a national of a third country.

  • You must have NARIC determine the equivalence of your diploma with a Belgian diploma of architecture: naricvlaanderen.be/nl/erkenning-buitenlands-diploma;
  • You must obtain a royal decree allowing you to practise the profession of architect in Belgium from the Programmatic Federal Public Service Science Policy:

I am a national of an EEA member state or Switzerland, and I obtained a diploma in third country:

You must send an application for registration to the council competent for the province in which you are setting up. For the Brussels-Capital Region, you have the option to submit your application for registration to either the provincial council of Flemish Brabant and Brussels (where Dutch is the language of communication) or the provincial council of Walloon Brabant and Brussels (where French is the language of communication).

Documents required

You must produce the following documents:

  1. copy of your diploma;
  2. proof of nationality;
  3. decision by NARIC establishing the equivalence of your diploma with a Belgian diploma of architecture;
  4. where applicable: royal decree allowing you to practise the profession of architect in Belgium;
  5. criminal background check;
  6. ethical commitment (download below);
  7. proof of professional liability insurance;
  8. relevant professional experience abroad.
