WHAT THE ARCHITECTS' COUNCIL OF EUROPE DID FOR YOU IN 2018
ADVOCACY
- CONTRIBUTED to the adoption of the Davos Declaration, promoting it to Member Organisations for adoption at national level (BE, ES);
- ADVOCATED for the inclusion of work on High Quality Architecture & Baukultur in the Council Work Plan for Culture;
- RESPONDED to the Legislative Package on Services (Proportionality, Notifications, Services e-Card, Reform Recommendations);
- PARTICIPATED in the roll out of the Clean Energy Package (revised EPBD; development of Smart Readiness Indicator);
- SUPPORTED the development of Level(s) and encouraged Member Organisations to take part in the testing phase;
- DEVELOPED policy positions on various Partnerships of the Urban Agenda for the EU; responded to the consultation on the Public Procurement Partnership.
EVENTS
- ARRANGED an Energy Day during the EU Sustainable Energy Week;
- ORGANISED a Conference on Adaptive Re-use of Heritage Buildings as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage;
- HELD a briefing for Members on the EU Ordinary Legislative Procedure;
- MERGED the ACE/EAAE Best Diploma Prize with the Mies van der Rohe Young Talent Architecture Award.
STUDIES & PUBLICATIONS
- INITIATED a study on the Value of Good Design and the Role of Architects;
- CONCLUDED a study on the impact of Regulation on cross-border services trade;
- CONDUCTED a survey of the profession for the 6th edition of the ACE Sector Study;
- PUBLISHED a booklet on exemplar Design Contests;
- PUBLISHED a booklet on exemplar projects that mitigate the worst effects of Climate Change.
WORK GROUPS
- SUPPORTED the ACE Internationalisation task-force;
- PUBLISHED Key Promotional Messages for exporting the services of EU professionals;
- EXPANDED the international section of the ACE web-site to include pages for finding partners, work opportunities, traineeships, CPD;
- CREATED a web-based flow chart to explain how architects may register in other EU Member States;
- CONCLUDED a Mutual Recognition Agreement with Canada (CALA);
- CREATED the Women in Architecture task-force to explore gender gap issues;
- CONCLUDED A2PBEER and PROF/TRAC projects; continued work on ABRACADABRA, BIMplement, RenoZEB; made successful bids for 5 projects (TripleA-reno, BIMSpeed, BIMzeED, ICARO and BIM4EEB).
DEVELOPMENT
- ORGANISED a Pecha Kucha to allow Member Organisations to present national concerns and propose future priorities for ACE;
- HELD a Board Strategic Development session to up-date the ACE Strategy;
- INITIATED work on a Manifesto for the European Parliament election.
IN 2019 THE ARCHITECTS' COUNCIL OF EUROPE PLANS TO
ADVOCACY
- PREPARE for the work of the Expert group on High-quality architecture and built environment for everyone set up by the Council’s Work Plan for Culture;
- PUBLISH the ACE Manifesto for European Parliament elections;
- PREPARE for the next review of the Professional Qualifications Directive;
- CONTINUE to respond to the on-going Legislative Package on Services (Proportionality; Notifications; Services e-Card; Reform Recommendations);
- RENEW calls for further improvements in Public Procurement;
- CONTINUE to participate in the development of Smart Readiness Indicator and contribute to the testing of Level[s] tool;
- INFORM members of the development of the Partnerships of the Urban Agenda for the EU;
- ENGAGE with MEPs after the elections and follow up the priorities of the new Commission.

- ORGANISE a web-streamed Conference on tools and policies for achieving quality in the built environment in Innsbruck;
- ARRANGE another Energy Day during the EU Sustainable Energy Week;
- HOLD a joint event with UIA at UNESCO on international design competitions;
- ORGANISE an event for Young Architects in Barcelona;
- ARRANGE an exhibition at the European Parliament of projects that mitigate the worst effects of Climate Change.

- DEVELOP a study on the impact of Mixed Qualifications;
- CONCLUDE a study on the Value of Good Design and the Role of Architects;
- PUBLISH a study on Evidence relating to architectural determinants of building performance;
- EXPLOIT findings of the study on the impact of Regulation on cross-border trade in services;
- PUBLISH the 6th edition of the Sector Study;
- CREATE an online Observatory for previous editions of the Sector Study;
- PUBLISH “An Introduction to BIM” booklet;
- DEVELOP a mobile application for sharing architectural events, information, contact etc.;
- PUBLISH an Export Guide;
- PUBLISH a checklist for architect-client collaborations and architect-architect joint ventures.
WORK GROUPS
- DEVELOP Mutual Recognition Agreements with South Korea, Japan, Mexico;
- PUBLISH a study on reasons why women leave the profession; develop strategies for closing the gender gap;
- CONTRIBUTE to the Horizon 2020 projects of 8 consortia.
DEVELOPMENT
- PUBLISH an up-dated Strategy & Business Plan;
- DEVELOP the on-going bids for Creative Europe funding.
