Application for Authorisation

I am a national of a third country and wish to practise the profession of architect temporarily and incidentally.

Equivalence of diploma

You must have NARIC determine the equivalence of your diploma with a Belgian diploma of architecture: naricvlaanderen.be/nl/erkenning-buitenlands-diploma.

You must obtain a royal decree allowing you to practise the profession of architect in Belgium from the Programmatic Federal Public Service Science Policy:
Tel. +32-(0)2-238.35.44
Email: vhor@belspo.be.

You must send an application for authorisation to the council competent for the province in which the site is located. For the Brussels-Capital Region, you have the option to submit your application for registration to either the provincial Council of Flemish Brabant and Brussels (where Dutch is the language of communication) or the provincial Council of Walloon Brabant and Brussels (where French is the language of communication).

Documents required

You must produce the following documents:

  1. copy of your diploma;
  2. proof of nationality;
  3. decision by NARIC establishing the equivalence of your diploma with a Belgian diploma of architecture;
  4. royal decree allowing you to practice the profession of architect in Belgium;
  5. proof that you have practised the profession of architect for at least one year abroad in the ten years preceding the authorisation;
  6. proof of professional liability insurance;
  7. declaration concerning the architect's assignment;
  8. prior written declaration;
  9. bis number.

If you are submitting the application for a legal entity, we will also request a sworn statement that the architect or architects that submitted the documents above will solely represent the legal entity in carrying out the architectural tasks.

If you have any questions, please contact the legal department: juridische.dienst@ordevanarchitecten.be
